💻 Emojis 'n Books 2.
We’ve created visuals of all the variations of the ‘🍟 Connect.’ button, making it easier to view on a larger scale. Quick refresh: in this Hackquire™ book blog post about the ‘🍟 Connect.’ button, we explain that our Connect button changes every second you visit the site. We are also creating our own Genmoji pack (iOS and Android).
Below is a quick index of this blog notes post.
The problem.
The solution.
The impact.
1/3. The problem:
We mentioned this in the previous book blog notes, but essentially, we felt that the 'Connect.' button alone isn't enough. Just saying 'Connect.' feels impersonal. It works for many, and that's great, but we wanted to rethink the connect button and give it a spin, inspired by the book. Shameless plug! But it was missing a demo!
2/3. The solution:
We have created a visual variation of every iteration of your new ‘🍟 Connect’ button, but now you can see them all. Yes, we had to put them in our little presentation style, so it’s all ‘on brand’ 🤮 for the Hackquire™ book. This way, you can review them and maybe even suggest more. Our method was to mainly use emoji objects.
3/3. The impact:
A refreshed respect for the world of emojis and their complexities and history. From learning about the evolution of the salad emoji to the Emoji Subcommittee of the Unicode Consortium, led by Jennifer Daniel, who has a vision for making these symbols accessible to everyone. Each example includes the visual plus the time and moment it's for.
Extra:
101. Who decides emojis?
The Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit crew in California, calls the shots on which fresh emojis hit your devices each year. It’s mainly made up of tech giants like Apple and Google, keeping things interesting for everyone. They are the ones that impact what emojis you use each day.
102. How many emojis?
According to Unicode 15.1, there are 3,782 emojis. Go take a look at their list—you might spot some you’ve never seen before. And when you add in Genmojis, where you can create your own, the list gets pretty big. Speaking of creating your own, we have the A-Z of 🤬 Work Annoyances as WhatsApp stickers, tap ‘🍟 Connect.’ to learn more.
103. Emojis look strange?
Here’s where things get a bit wild. Unicode sets the rules for emoji, but they don’t control how they look—that’s up to the "vendors." So, whether it’s Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, or another company, each one puts its own spin on the designs. Let’s use the 📕 Closed Book emoji to compare across platforms. Click the links!
